Where to Base
Uroa is a centerless village with resorts located on both the northern and southern sides of the bay. There is no central hub, so choose your base based on proximity to either Kiwengwa (north) or Chwaka (south). This layout suits travelers who prefer quiet, spread-out accommodations and do not mind walking or taking short rides to access different beach sections.
Getting Around
Access is primarily via dala-dala (Route 214) and public buses (Routes 13 and 14) connecting to Stone Town. Services run multiple times daily but are limited compared to major cities. Since the village is spread out, most resorts offer shuttle services or can arrange taxis for local exploration and airport transfers.
Best Season
The village experiences growth in tourist accommodation since 2008, making it viable year-round. However, as a rural area, services may be limited during off-peak seasons. Travelers should verify resort operations and local store availability, especially during rainy periods, to ensure a smooth stay.
