Where to Base
Stay near the main town square (Zócalo) for easy access to colonial architecture, restaurants, and shops. This central location allows for walking to key attractions and enjoying the vibrant local atmosphere without needing immediate transport.
Getting Around
Access is primarily by road from Mexico City, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. While the town center is walkable, visiting the El Tepozteco temple ruins requires a drive or hike from the base. Taxis and rental cars are useful for exploring the wider valley and surrounding areas.
Best Season
The dry season from November to April offers the most comfortable weather for hiking and outdoor activities. Summer months bring rain, which keeps the landscape lush green but may limit some trail access. The town's magical status and cultural events make it appealing year-round.
