Tangerang

Tangerang, the most populous city in Banten Province, sits on Jakarta's western border. A major industrial and manufacturing hub with over 1,000 factories, it features high-end satellite cities like BSD City and Alam Sutera. Functioning partly as a dormitory city for Jakarta commuters, it offers modern amenities, private universities, and the first Indonesian IKEA. Its proximity to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport makes it a strategic base for business travelers and transit passengers seeking comfort outside the capital's core.

Getting there & around

From the airport

Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) is in Tangerang and is the main airport. For central Tangerang, the simplest arrival is a metered taxi or ride-hail, about 20-45 minutes depending on traffic and hotel area. By rail, take the free airport Skytrain to SHIA station, ride the airport train to Batu Ceper, then change to the KRL Tangerang Line for Tangerang station; allow roughly 35-60 minutes including transfers. DAMRI/airport buses are better for Jakarta or bus terminals than door-to-door hotel access. From Halim (HLP), taxi/ride-hail is usually 1.5-2.5 hours; public transit requires Jakarta transfers and is awkward with luggage.

Around the city

Tangerang has no city metro. The useful rail spine is KRL Commuterline’s Tangerang Line, linking Tangerang and Batu Ceper with Duri in Jakarta; Batu Ceper also connects to the airport train. For visitors, use a KMT or major Indonesian e-money card such as Mandiri e-Money, BCA Flazz, BNI TapCash, BRI BRIZZI, or JakLingko for KRL and much Jakarta transit. Local movement is mostly ride-hail/taxi, Trans Kota Tangerang/Tayo buses, and selected TransJakarta feeders such as Poris Plawad or Alam Sutera routes. BSD, Gading Serpong, Alam Sutera, and Karawaci are spread out and car-oriented, so choose a hotel near your meeting, mall, campus, hospital, or rail station.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Base yourself in developed satellite cities like BSD City or Alam Sutera. These areas offer modern infrastructure, shopping malls, private schools, and convenience centers, providing a safe and comfortable environment for both business and leisure travelers.

Airport Connection

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is located within Tangerang city limits. For overnight layovers, many hotels offer convenient shuttle services or are situated near terminals, significantly streamlining the transit process for frequent flyers.

Getting Around

The government is expanding the toll road system to accommodate traffic. While many residents commute to Jakarta, the satellite cities are self-contained with ample commercial facilities, allowing guests to meet most needs via walking or short drives.
