Pachino

Pachino is a tranquil town in southern Sicily, rich in history and wine culture. Originally named Bachino, it derives its name from the Latin words for Bacchus and wine. Founded in 1760 by the Starrabba nobles on the site of a 1494 tower, the town holds significant historical weight as the landing site of the British 8th Army during the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. For frequent-flyer hotel travelers seeking an authentic, less commercialized Italian experience, Pachino offers a peaceful retreat. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the broader Syracuse province, combining historical depth with the relaxed pace of rural Sicily. The town's layout is compact, making it easy to navigate on foot while staying in centrally located accommodations.
