Masterton

Masterton (Whakaoriori) serves as the largest town in the Wairarapa region and the administrative seat of the Masterton District. Located 100 kilometers northeast of Wellington, it sits on the Waipoua stream between the Ruamāhunga and Waingawa Rivers. With an urban population of approximately 22,600, the town functions as a vital commercial and agricultural service hub for surrounding farmers. It is also renowned as the headquarters for the annual Golden Shears sheep-shearing competition.
