Where to Base
Base yourself in the town center for maximum convenience. Mascota is compact, and most accommodations cluster near the main areas, making it easy to walk to local amenities. Avoid staying in remote outlying villages like Tecuani unless you have specific off-road transport, as the main town offers better access to services and the scenic mountain roads leading to Talpa De Allende.
Getting Around
There is no airport in Mascota. Access is primarily via road, often as part of a journey to Puerto Vallarta or Talpa De Allende. The town is surrounded by mountains and pine forests, making it ideal for road trips. Once there, the small size allows for walking, but having a vehicle is recommended to explore the broader municipality and nearby villages like La Plata.
Best Season
The best time to visit is during the spring or autumn when temperatures are mild. As a mountainous destination, summer can bring rain, while winters are cooler. Visiting during drier months ensures clearer views of the surrounding pine-covered peaks and more comfortable conditions for exploring the town and its natural surroundings without weather disruptions.
