Where to Base
Staying in the Centro Histórico (Historic Center) is recommended. It places you within walking distance of the main plaza, churches, and restaurants, offering convenience and safety while allowing easy exploration of the city's colonial architecture.
Getting Around
Loja does not have a major international airport. The nearest airport is Cajas Airport, but flights are limited. Most travelers connect through Quito or Guayaquil and take a bus or rent a car to reach Loja, which takes several hours. Local transport relies on taxis and buses.
Best Season
The climate is mild year-round, but the dry season (June to September) is ideal for tourism. With less rainfall, it is perfect for hiking and visiting nearby attractions like Cajas National Park and various waterfalls.
