FIFTY TWO

★ Michelin££££Modern Cuisine, Creative

The open kitchen acts as a stage at this theatrical restaurant set in the grounds of the Rudding Park hotel. All the semi-communal tables face the chefs as they craft their creative surprise tasting menu, which is filled with assured, technically skilled dishes informed by their homegrown produce (from the 52 raised beds) and the preserved ingredients that line the shelves. In a playful touch, ‘Dessert Island Discs’ allows guests to choose a track to play while the puddings are served. Said desserts are a highlight, such as the exquisitely executed honey custard tart crafted from their own hon

Bib Gourmand 2

Bavette

Bib Gourmand££French

From baguettes to bavettes, there’s something so overtly French about this terrific neighbourhood bistro that it’s a wonder they don’t have the tricolore flag hanging outside. Its unlikely location in the Leeds suburb of Horsforth is a result of the relationship between Leeds native Sandy Jarvis and Frenchman Clément Cousin, who met while working in some of London’s top restaurants. Cousin runs the chatty service, while Jarvis is in the kitchen working on proudly Gallic classics – expect to spot delicious renditions of the likes of 'oeuf en meurette' and 'Paris Brest'.

TripAdvisor review sample · 3.9/5 · 80 reviews

Bavette in Woolton holds a 3.9/5 average rating. Positive reviews highlight friendly service, high-quality food, and a relaxing atmosphere, with steaks and Sunday roasts receiving particular praise. Some guests note good value. Conversely, negative feedback focuses on poor meal pacing, including long waits and delayed service, especially during holidays. Complaints also cite lukewarm food, bland flavors, and isolated serious hygiene concerns. While regulars appreciate consistency, issues with organization and staff attitude during peak times detract from the experience.

Suitable for diners seeking high-quality steaks and a relaxed vibe, but avoid peak holiday times to minimize service delays.

Prashad

Bib Gourmand££Indian Vegetarian

Set over two floors of a former pub, this colourfully decorated, family-run restaurant offers interesting, original Indian vegetarian cooking inspired by the owners' Gujarati heritage. After a warm welcome from the team, you can choose between set sharing menus, a full tasting experience or picking a few dishes from the extensive à la carte. Dishes such as the 'Chole' chickpea curry are substantial in both size and flavour and the spicing is well-judged. The bread selection stands out, with excellent naan and rotli.

TripAdvisor review sample · 4.6/5 · 80 reviews

Prashad, an award-winning Indian vegetarian restaurant in Cleckheaton, holds an average rating of 4.6/5 across 80 reviews. Guests frequently praise the flavorful, beautifully presented food and attentive, professional service, describing the hospitality as exemplary. However, negative feedback highlights issues with meal pacing, perceived arrogance in service, and concerns over value for money. Some diners criticized the overuse of green chutney in starters and found the pricing excessive compared to local alternatives. While most experiences were positive, isolated incidents involving booking errors and unmet expectations resulted in lower ratings.

Suitable for diners seeking high-quality refined vegetarian cuisine and elegant service, though those sensitive to value may prefer alternatives.

Ox Club

£££Meats and Grills, Barbecue

Housed in a former mill, along with a beer hall and cocktail bar, this unpretentious restaurant attracts a young and lively crowd keen to sample its wood-fired cooking using a grill imported from the US. Utilising fire and smoke to enhance quality produce is the name of the game – with the 1kg côte de boeuf on hand if you're feeling flush – but the kitchen isn't afraid of adding in bold flavours too, as evidenced by the nduja with the oysters and the gochujang glaze on the crispy pig tails. Pleasingly, there's plenty of choice for vegetarians too.

TripAdvisor review sample · 4.1/5 · 80 reviews

Located in Leeds city centre, Ox Club specializes in barbecue and grills. Reviews frequently praise the quality of Sunday roasts, steaks, and sides, noting that vegetarian options are also well-received. The atmosphere is described as rustic and intimate. Service is generally commended for being attentive and friendly, though some guests report inconsistent pacing and long waits. Negative feedback highlights issues such as tough meat, undercooked vegetables, cold food, and isolated hygiene concerns. While food quality is a standout feature, consistency varies across visits.

Suitable for diners seeking authentic British roast experiences who can tolerate occasional service inconsistencies.

Forde

££Mediterranean Cuisine

Experienced chef Matt Healy – a onetime 'MasterChef: The Professionals' contestant – has come home to Horsforth to open this rustic bistro and wine bar. His appealing menu features appetising small plates with Mediterranean influences; two or three per person works well, and there are some well-chosen wines, craft beers and cocktails too.

TripAdvisor review sample · 4.4/5 · 80 reviews

Forde, a Mediterranean restaurant in Pudsey, holds a 4.4/5 rating on TripAdvisor. Reviewers frequently praise the high food quality, noting that dishes like the Sunday roast and small plates are well-presented and delicious. Service is generally described as friendly and efficient, though isolated complaints mention rude staff and pacing issues. The atmosphere receives mixed feedback; while some find it cozy and lovely, others criticize the uninspiring decor, cramped space, and cold facilities. Opinions on value diverge significantly, with some finding prices reasonable and others deeming the portions insufficient for the cost. It is a solid choice for food-focused diners, provided expectations regarding ambiance and service consistency are managed.

Recommended for diners prioritizing food quality and Sunday roasts, but those sensitive to ambiance or value may want to manage expectations.

Shibden Mill Inn

££Modern British

Tucked away on the floor of a steep, wooded valley, this former corn mill is full of rustic character, with cluttered, low-beamed rooms, open fires and cosy snugs. Monthly changing menus offer hearty, flavoursome dishes made with Yorkshire produce. The young team are organised and welcoming – and boutique bedrooms add to the appeal.

TripAdvisor review sample · 4.7/5 · 80 reviews

Shibden Mill Inn in Buttershaw holds a 4.7/5 rating, praised for its modern British cuisine, attentive service, and unique atmosphere within a historic mill. While many guests highlight exceptional food quality and a welcoming environment, negative reviews cite issues with meal pacing, inconsistent dish preparation, and limited seating during winter.
