Hoi An Ancient Town / Minh An
Lantern lanes, heritage sights, busy evenings

Hoi An is a city rich in historical charm, centered around the Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Formerly the provincial capital of Quang Nam until its dissolution in 2025, it retains strong memories of its past as a trading port. For hotel travelers, accommodation is primarily concentrated within and immediately surrounding the Ancient Town, offering convenient walking access to cobblestone streets, traditional workshops, and riverside views.

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is the main gateway, about 28-30 km north of Hoi An. Best first-arrival options are prebooked hotel/private transfer, taxi, or Grab, usually 40-60 minutes depending on traffic. Shared shuttle/minibus services can take about 60-90 minutes with stops. Chu Lai (VCL) is a secondary option about 70-75 km south, roughly 90-120 minutes by car. There is no train or metro into Hoi An; Da Nang railway station still requires a road transfer.

Hoi An has no metro and no useful tourist transit card. Stay choice matters: Ancient Town is best explored on foot; many hotels lend or rent bicycles, useful for Cam Chau, An Bang, Tra Que, and beach trips. Use Grab, taxis, hotel shuttles, or local electric carts for longer hops to beaches, Cam Thanh, and Cua Dai. Parts of the Ancient Town restrict motor traffic during pedestrian hours, especially evenings, so expect to walk the last stretch.

Prioritize staying within or on the immediate edges of the Hoi An Ancient Town. This area concentrates major attractions, restaurants, and the famous lantern streets, allowing you to reach most points of interest on foot and avoiding transportation issues at night.
The nearest major airport is Da Nang International Airport (DAD). The drive from Da Nang to Hoi An takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, making it the preferred transfer method for most travelers.
It is advisable to avoid the rainy season (October to December), when there is a higher risk of flooding. From January to August, the weather is drier and cooler, ideal for outdoor strolls and exploring the ancient architecture.
