Where to Base
Accommodations are concentrated in Djibouti City, the capital. Given the small size of the country, staying in the city center or along the waterfront is most convenient. These areas provide easy access to the main port, government offices, and commercial hubs, while offering a quieter retreat after a day of business or transit.
Getting Around
The primary gateway is Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport. The distance from the airport to the city center is short, typically accessible via taxi within a brief drive. Inside the city, taxis are the main mode of transport. Due to the compact nature of Djibouti City, moving between hotels, the port, and key sites is generally quick and straightforward.
Best Season
Djibouti features a hot and arid climate. Travelers are advised to avoid the peak heat months for a more comfortable experience. Visiting during slightly cooler periods enhances the ability to explore the city and engage in outdoor activities without the extreme temperatures typical of the Horn of Africa.
