Where to Base
It is advisable to base yourself in the town center to access the historic commercial facilities dating back to 1884. The southern areas, known as Bushbuckridge NU, cover a vast 1,587 square kilometers but have limited infrastructure, making them better suited for deep nature exploration rather than convenient hotel stays.
Getting Around
The town does not have a major international airport. Travelers typically need to reach other hubs in the Mpumalanga province first and then transfer via road transport. Internal travel relies on the road network, so renting a car is recommended to flexibly explore the surrounding rural areas and the prominent ridge.
Best Season
The climate in Mpumalanga is mild, making it suitable for visits year-round. Avoiding the rainy season allows for more comfortable outdoor exploration, enabling travelers to better observe the local historical sites and the natural landscapes associated with the area's namesake bushbuck herds.
