Boksburg

Boksburg, located on the East Rand of Gauteng province in South Africa, is a city with deep roots in the gold rush era, dating back to the discovery of gold in 1887. Named after W. Eduard Bok, the State Secretary of the South African Republic, it served as a crucial staging post along the Main Reef Road connecting major mining towns. Since December 5, 2000, Boksburg has been part of the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, forming the local government for much of the East Rand.
