Binz

Binz stands as the largest seaside resort city on the German island of Rügen, strategically positioned between the Prorer Wiek bay and the Schmachter See lake in the island's southeast. Renowned for its meticulously preserved historical resort architecture and stunning natural scenery, Binz serves as a gateway to the nearby Jasmund National Park and its iconic chalk cliffs. The terrain to the south and east rises into hills exceeding 100 meters, offering scenic views, while the Schmale Heide to the north connects the Muttland region to the Jasmund peninsula. For frequent-flyer hotel travelers, Binz offers a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a blend of cultural heritage and coastal tranquility. The city's layout and charm make it a compelling destination for extended stays or as a central hub for exploring the broader Rügen region.

Before choosing where to stay

Where to Base

Prioritize accommodations along the Prorer Wiek bay for easy access to the historic resort architecture and waterfront views. The hilly areas to the south and east offer a quieter retreat with scenic landscapes, ideal for travelers seeking peace away from the main resort bustle.

Airport Connection

Rügen Island does not have a major international airport. Travelers should fly into hubs like Rostock-Laage or Schwerin-Parchim, then connect via train and bus services to reach Binz. This multi-modal journey is standard for accessing the island's resorts.

Best Season

Summer offers pleasant weather perfect for seaside activities. However, spring and autumn provide fewer crowds, making them ideal for exploring Binz's well-kept historical architecture and visiting the nearby Jasmund National Park at a leisurely pace.

It is a real stroke of luck for the beautiful Baltic Sea resort of Binz that Ralf Haug, who was born in the Black Forest, has ended up here in the far north of Germany. At the fine dining restaurant of Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, he has been wowing diners with his creativity and finesse since 2013. In his multi-course "freustil Menü", he brings together classical influences and regional ingredients in a modern, accessible style. His ability to pare things back to the essentials while bringing out the natural flavours of the ingredients is evident in dishes such as "free-range egg, endive, truffle
