This restaurant in the centre of this small town is run by the Silvestro family (father and son). In summer, book one of the tables in the charming outdoor space overlooking the square. The menu focuses on local traditional cuisine with the occasional personalised twist, such as the pork-belly kebab with a papacelle reduction (short, pulpy peppers with a sweet flavour) and stracciata sauce, while the wine list features labels from the Irpinia region (and elsewhere) with a good choice of vertical wines and top-quality names such as Aglianico and Taurasi.
Just a few metres from the Duomo, within an elegant period building, a bright corridor leads guests from the entrance to the open-plan kitchen, crossing a minimalist, contemporary dining room. Quality reigns supreme in the kitchen: carefully selected ingredients, artisan breads with great character and desserts that leave a lasting impression. There are three tasting menus and a constantly evolving à la carte menu, based on the concept of gastronomic precision, distinct flavours and rigorous balance. WebsiteFollow your satnav and you’ll easily find this private residence situated just outside the village. The restaurant is family run and furnished in classic style, with an attractive veranda room overlooking the garden. The friendly owner serves regional cuisine, all carefully prepared using top-quality local ingredients, some of which (such as the delicious lemons and excellent San Marzano tomatoes that appear in a number of dishes) are grown in the restaurant’s own orchard and kitchen garden. Our inspector particularly enjoyed the ravioli di genovese served with onions and pecorino cheese.
WebsiteThe area around Montoro, famous for its cipolla ramata (copper onion), is now also home to a gourmet restaurant thanks to young chef Francesco Cerrato, whose cuisine is inspired by locally sourced ingredients from this inland region as well as fish and seafood from the coast. The menu also features creative, carefully prepared dishes served by the attentive young staff. Minimalist-style ambience.
WebsiteSimple premises with two large windows overlooking its kitchens. It serves imaginative dishes where tradition and creativity become one. Informal service.
This restaurant with a modern, elegant dining room in which an entire wall is taken up by the open-view kitchen serves varied cuisine. In addition to more elaborate dishes, there’s also a choice of street food such as fried dishes, sandwiches, Spanish prosciutto and tacos, as well as raw fish and seafood, classic and more creative options, and various fish and meat main courses, many of which are cooked over the barbecue grill. The superb wine list includes a fine array of champagnes.
WebsiteRecently re-opened under new management, this charming restaurant winds its way from room to room until you finally arrive at the palazzo’s old cellars, the jewel in its crown. The cuisine here has quickly made a name for itself, focusing on strong links with regional traditions and showcasing local favourites on a menu full of tempting options, including salumi, local vegetables, pasta dishes, grilled meat options and typical local ingredients such as San Marzano tomatoes. The delicious cuisine pays tribute to the fine culinary traditions of Campania.
WebsiteIn a remote location in the Sannio, this authentic inn offers fine views from its well-kept dining room-cum-veranda and outdoor terrace. The owner-chef creates dishes with a regional flavour using produce from his own garden, without straying too far from local traditions.
