Health
Use this as reference, not medical advice. Drink bottled/treated water, be careful with street food and hand hygiene; cholera transmission has been reported. Malaria risk is countrywide, so avoid bites. Avoid swimming/wading in untreated freshwater because schistosomiasis occurs. Plan for strong sun, heat, dehydration, safari/tick/tsetse exposure, and some highland/urban elevations above 1,000m.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 4-6 weeks before travel. Be current on routine vaccines, including MMR, polio, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis, influenza and COVID-19. CDC commonly recommends hepatitis A, hepatitis B and typhoid for Zimbabwe; cholera vaccine may be considered for higher-risk itineraries, and rabies pre-exposure vaccine for animal/safari/remote exposure. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended for Zimbabwe itself and is not required from the U.S.; proof is required for travelers aged 9+ months arriving from, or transiting over 12 hours in, a yellow-fever-risk country.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is available but not universal. Econet advertises local eSIM activation by QR code and also sells data bundles; NetOne and Telecel remain major local mobile options, usually via physical SIM/data bundles and shops. For the smoothest arrival, check device compatibility, bring an unlocked phone, expect registration ID checks, and use Wi-Fi or an international travel eSIM as backup if you need data before buying locally.
