Health
Reference only, not medical advice. Guadeloupe is tropical and low altitude; heat, sun, dehydration, beach/boat safety and rain-slick hikes are practical concerns. Use safe food/water habits, especially when eating outside resorts. Prevent mosquito bites because dengue and Zika are listed travel risks; avoid floodwater/muddy water after heavy rain and avoid swimming in fresh, unchlorinated water. La Soufriere is about 1,467 m, so altitude illness is not a typical visitor issue.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least a month before travel. CDC lists routine vaccines, including MMR, flu, polio, Tdap/DTaP, varicella and shingles as applicable, plus COVID-19. Hepatitis A is recommended for unvaccinated travelers, Hepatitis B for unvaccinated travelers of all ages, and typhoid for most travelers. Rabies pre-exposure vaccine may be considered for animal-contact risk. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended; it is not required for direct travel from the U.S., but a certificate is required for travelers age 1+ arriving from, or transiting over 12 hours in, a yellow-fever-risk country.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is practical for most visitors with compatible unlocked phones. Orange Travel sells Guadeloupe eSIM plans and states service uses Orange and Digicel partner networks. Local mobile operators include Orange Caraibe, Digicel, SFR Caraibe/Outremer Telecom and Free Caraibe; check current prepaid/eSIM availability in shops or online before arrival, especially if you need a local number. Coverage is best around towns, resorts and main roads, with weaker spots possible on hikes and smaller islands.
