Vilnius Airport VNOEYVI

Vilnius Airport (VNO), formally Vilnius Čiurlionis International Airport during the current naming period, is Lithuania’s main air gateway and a compact European international airport rather than a major global transfer hub. airBaltic has a Vilnius base/secondary-hub role and is prominent here; Ryanair and Wizz Air are also important low-cost operators. Full-service links are mainly via other hubs, including LOT to Warsaw, Lufthansa to Frankfurt, Finnair to Helsinki, SAS to Scandinavia and Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, so alliance connectivity exists but VNO itself is not a Star Alliance, oneworld or SkyTeam hub. Since the 2025 opening of the new departures terminal and the 2026 VNO Plaza conversion of the former departures hall, the airport functions as one connected terminal complex: use the new departures area for check-in/security, the arrivals side for inbound formalities, and the renovated central area for shops, food and, progressively, non-Schengen processing. Transfers are on foot inside the airport, not by inter-terminal shuttle. For the city, the train is the fastest when the timetable fits: the airport rail stop is about a 2-minute walk from arrivals and the ride to Vilnius Railway Station takes up to 8 minutes; buses 88/3G and the night 88N are useful backups, while taxis/ride-hail are simple for door-to-door Old Town trips. VNO is easy for layovers because the city is close, but it is not built like a hub: protect self-connections, especially with checked bags or Schengen/non-Schengen passport control.
