Varna Airport (VAR) is best understood as the air gateway to Bulgaria’s northern Black Sea coast, not as a major global or alliance hub. Its schedule is highly seasonal and leisure-driven, with summer 2026 promoted by the operator as a 60-destination programme. Wizz Air is the clearest base carrier here, with a third based aircraft announced in 2026 and a large European point-to-point network from Varna. Bulgaria Air links Varna with Sofia and selected international routes; Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Discover Airlines/Lufthansa Group and Air Serbia are useful for onward connections through Istanbul, Vienna, Frankfurt/Munich and Belgrade. For most passengers, the airport is straightforward: the practical landside and airside journey is centred on Terminal 2, with bus, taxi, check-in, security, border control, gates, baggage claim and the contract lounge all easy to navigate in a compact terminal environment.
