Tiruchirappalli International Airport (TRZ) is best understood as a compact regional international gateway for central Tamil Nadu, not a major global hub and not a Star Alliance, oneworld or SkyTeam hub. Its network is strongest on Gulf, Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka and Indian domestic routes, with Air India Express a particularly visible operator alongside carriers such as IndiGo and regional international airlines. Since June 2024, scheduled passenger operations have used the new integrated passenger terminal, so domestic and international passengers are in the same terminal complex rather than split across distant terminals. For frequent flyers this makes TRZ easy to navigate, but it is still a smaller airport: plan connections conservatively unless you are on a protected through-ticket, and do not expect the lounge, hotel or shopping depth of Chennai, Bengaluru or Mumbai.
