Thessaloniki Airport SKGLGTS
Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” (SKG) is the main air gateway for northern Greece and Halkidiki rather than a large intercontinental hub. Aegean/Olympic, SKY express and Ryanair have important local operations here; Aegean is the key Star Alliance presence, while most other traffic is European, domestic, seasonal leisure, or regional point-to-point. The airport is compact: T1 and the newer T2 are adjacent parts of the same terminal complex, so transfers are normally on foot, with Schengen, non-Schengen and domestic processing depending on the gate and route. For frequent flyers, the simplest city transfer is a taxi from arrivals, typically around 25–35 minutes to the centre in normal traffic; bus 1X/1N links the airport with the centre, railway station and KTEL bus terminal but is slower. SKG is workable for connections, but it is not designed like a mega-hub: follow the airline’s protected connection, allow extra margin for separate tickets or checked bags, and be conservative on non-Schengen border-control itineraries.
