Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is Shanghai’s close-in airport: strong for domestic trunk routes, high-speed-rail connections and short regional services around East Asia, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It is not the city’s main long-haul international gateway; that role sits mostly with Pudong (PVG). For frequent flyers, SHA is convenient because it is near central Shanghai and attached to the Hongqiao transport hub, but it is split between two materially different terminals, so terminal checks matter.
