Riga International Airport (RIX) is Latvia’s main airport and one of the key air gateways for the Baltic region. It is airBaltic’s main hub; airBaltic is not in a global alliance, though it works with codeshare/interline partners. Ryanair and other European carriers also provide a strong short- and medium-haul network. RIX is primarily an international and regional European airport rather than a long-haul mega-hub. The passenger operation is compact: one main terminal with Schengen and non-Schengen gate areas, so connections are usually walkable, but passport control can matter on Schengen/non-Schengen transfers. For central Riga, bus 22 is the standard public-transport option and usually takes around 30 minutes; taxi or ride-hail can be faster when traffic is light. Lounge choice is limited compared with major hubs: expect a main independent business lounge/contract-lounge setup rather than large alliance flagship lounges.
