Washington Dulles International Airport IADKIAD

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is the Washington, D.C. region’s main long-haul international gateway and a major United Airlines hub, with a strong Star Alliance presence. It also handles plenty of domestic and regional United Express flying, while many non-United international and domestic carriers use the A/B concourses. The layout is manageable once you understand it: ticketing, baggage claim, security and the Z gates sit in the Main Terminal; Concourses A/B are used largely by non-United airlines plus some United Express; Concourses C/D are the main United operation. AeroTrain links the Main Terminal with A, B and C in under a few minutes between stations, while Concourse D still relies on mobile lounges or walking links from C. Most international arrivals must clear U.S. immigration and customs before continuing, so inbound international connections need more padding than simple domestic ones. For downtown D.C., the Silver Line Metrorail is usually the best all-round option: follow the indoor tunnel with moving sidewalks from the terminal to the station, then allow roughly 55-65 minutes to central stations, plus walking time at each end.
