King Shaka International Airport DURFALE
King Shaka International Airport (DUR) is Durban’s main airport, about 35 km north of the city centre. It is not a major global-alliance hub: South African Airways’ Star Alliance hub is Johannesburg OR Tambo, and DUR functions mainly as a strong South African domestic trunk airport plus KwaZulu-Natal’s international gateway. Expect heavy domestic flying to Johannesburg, Cape Town and other South African cities, with a smaller set of regional and long-haul links, including Gulf/African connectivity depending on schedule season. The passenger experience is straightforward because domestic and international flights sit under one integrated terminal roof: departures are upstairs, arrivals downstairs, and domestic/international security and immigration flows split after check-in. Transfers are usually walking transfers, but international-to-domestic passengers should plan for immigration, customs, baggage and re-screening where applicable.
