Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) is Ahmedabad’s and Gujarat’s main international gateway, serving both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Treat it as a busy regional and international gateway rather than a mega hub: IndiGo has a large presence, Air India/Air India Express now use Terminal 2, and international flying is strongest to the Gulf plus selected Asian and long-haul links. It is not a major global-alliance transfer hub in the way Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru can be; Air India is Star Alliance, but AMD’s passenger experience is mostly point-to-point with some self-connecting. The practical frequent-flyer rule is to verify your terminal close to travel. Terminal 1 is mainly domestic, while Terminal 2 handles international and an increasing share of domestic operations, including Air India and Air India Express from 2026-03-29.
