Auckland Airport (AKL) is New Zealand’s main international gateway and the key hub for Air New Zealand, making it the country’s most important Star Alliance connection point. The airport uses separate international and domestic terminals linked landside by a marked walkway and a free inter-terminal bus; transfers are straightforward, but international-to-domestic connections require New Zealand entry formalities, baggage collection, Customs and Biosecurity before re-check or onward check-in. For the city, the simplest frequent-traveller option is usually the SkyDrive express coach to the SkyCity/Hobson Street area, with a rough journey time of about 25–45 minutes depending on traffic; AirportLink bus plus train is useful if your destination sits better on the rail network.
