Narita International Airport (NRT) is Tokyo’s long-haul international gateway, about 60 km east of central Tokyo. Haneda is usually more convenient for the city, but Narita remains important for intercontinental flying, cargo, North Asia connections, and low-cost operations. ANA and JAL both keep major international hub functions here; Zipair Tokyo, Jetstar Japan, Peach and other LCCs also make Narita useful for regional Japan/Asia itineraries. Terminal planning matters: Terminal 1 is split by wings and is strongest for Star Alliance/ANA in the South Wing and many SkyTeam or other carriers in the North Wing; Terminal 2 is the core JAL/oneworld terminal; Terminal 3 is the simpler low-cost terminal. For central Tokyo, the fastest straightforward rail choice is usually Keisei Skyliner to Nippori/Ueno, roughly 36-41 minutes to the Yamanote Line; JR Narita Express is slower to Tokyo Station at about 53 minutes but more convenient if you want a direct ride to Tokyo, Shinagawa, Shibuya, Shinjuku or Yokohama. For connections, build in buffer if changing terminals or mixing separate tickets, because inter-terminal moves can require shuttle buses, walking corridors, and security/immigration steps depending on the itinerary.
