Part of the Platán complex – which also includes a hotel and spa – this charming bistro sits within the same historic castle outbuilding as Two Michelin Starred Platán Gourmet. It has a pleasingly relaxed, contemporary style, and in the corner is a small shop selling desserts and ice cream. In summer you can dine beneath the branches of a 230-year-old sycamore tree on a charming stepped terrace which borders the lake. The concise menu sees robust Hungarian dishes given a refined bistro-style makeover while still staying true to their roots. Service is fittingly warm and chatty.

Located in the pedestrianised streets of the beautiful baroque city of Győr, this long-standing restaurant fits in perfectly thanks to its traditional, low-key elegance. Head past the bistro area at the front to the bright room behind, where they serve a menu which mixes Hungarian, Mediterranean and even some subtle Thai influences. The bright, vibrant dishes come in generous portions, with well-judged flavours – be sure to save room for a comforting dessert such as the gundel or zsabo pancakes. The climb up the steep, narrow lane to the two-hectare estate results in breathtaking Danube Bend views, which become all the more special at sunset. The kitchen follows a ‘slow food’ ethos; ingredients from their nearby farm and the local area underpin the cooking, and menus evolve twice a day as new produce arrives.
