This riverside restaurant is a great place to stop for lunch after paying respects at Wat Choeng Len. Diners gather here for some of the finest fresh produce from the river, including grilled prawns and deep-fried sheatfish. The aromatic green curry with clown featherback fish balls is another highlight. Advance ordering of the huge river prawns – expertly cooked over charcoal – is highly recommended, as they are both popular and in limited supply.
U-Khao
U-Khao, or ‘land of plenty’, has two dining areas smartly decorated in white and blue. The menu serves up the nostalgic flavours of the owner’s childhood, as it’s based on her mother’s Thai recipes. They use traditional cooking methods presented with a modern aesthetic. The stir-fried stinky vegetables with shrimp is worth trying for its unique flavor. The grilled shrimp relish with vegetables is also highly recommended for its spicy kick and smoky aroma.
Grand Chaopraya
Opened in 2009, this riverside restaurant serves Thai cuisine made with local ingredients, including fish sourced from the river. The dining room features high ceilings, spiral staircases and floor-to-ceiling windows, while the terrace offers scenic views and nightly live music. The menu is packed with recipes from the owner’s mother. Her grilled river prawns and grilled fish and shrimp in pineapple curry are a must. Book ahead for an outdoor table at dinner.

The old mill that houses this riverside restaurant is over 130 years old and provides a unique vintage atmosphere to diners seeking a memorable experience. Delicate titbits such as Toong Thong and the flower-like Chor Muang make delightful starters, before moving on to main courses including the fabulous fried snakehead fish with herbs and deep-fried shrimp with tamarind sauce. They also offer a river tour package along the Noi, which culminates in dining at the restaurant. Booking is essential.
