Haikou Meilan International Airport HAKZJHK

Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) is the main air gateway for northern Hainan and an important base for Hainan Airlines and Tianjin Airlines, with China Southern also prominent on the field. It is best understood as a domestic China and regional Asia gateway rather than a classic global-alliance megahub: Hainan Airlines is not in one of the three major alliances, and China Southern is no longer a SkyTeam member. The airport now works as a two-terminal operation: T2 handles all international flights and most Hainan Airlines / China Southern services, while T1 handles many other domestic departures. For the city, the most flyer-friendly option is usually the rail link from the airport’s underground Meilan station toward Haikou East and other Hainan high-speed-rail stops; taxis or ride-hailing are simpler door to door and commonly take around 30 minutes to central Haikou in normal traffic. For connections, same-terminal domestic transfers are straightforward, but T1/T2 or international-domestic transfers may require landside movement, immigration/customs, baggage reclaim, and re-screening, so build in a larger buffer.
