Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport FCOLIRF
Rome Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino (FCO) is Rome’s main international airport and Italy’s primary long-haul gateway. It is the hub for ITA Airways, which has moved into the Star Alliance orbit as of 2026, so frequent flyers should think of FCO as both a domestic/European connector and a serious intercontinental station. The passenger setup is comparatively simple: Terminal 1 is strongest for ITA, domestic and Schengen flying, while Terminal 3 is the larger terminal and handles much of the non-Schengen and long-haul operation. For central Rome, the most predictable choice is the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini, taking about 32 minutes; FL1 regional trains are better if you want Trastevere, Ostiense or Tiburtina rather than Termini. Connections can be smooth, but passport control, security reclearing and the E-gate satellite can add time, so do not treat every FCO transfer as a same-terminal walk.
