São Paulo-Congonhas (CGH) is the city airport for São Paulo: close to the business districts, heavily used by frequent domestic travelers, and not the city’s long-haul international gateway. Think of it as a major Brazilian domestic and regional airport, especially for routes such as São Paulo-Rio and links to Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Porto Alegre and other large Brazilian markets. LATAM Brasil and GOL are the key incumbent carriers at CGH, with Azul also present; LATAM is no longer in a global alliance and GOL/Azul are not full members of the big three alliances, so alliance-style flagship infrastructure is limited compared with GRU. CGH is compact: passenger flights use one main passenger terminal, shown operationally as T1, with check-in on the ground floor, departures mainly above, remote stands and bus boarding when assigned. Transfers are usually walking within the same terminal rather than inter-terminal moves. For the city, taxi or app ride is usually the simplest frequent-flyer option; allow roughly 20-40 minutes to Paulista/central business areas when traffic is kind, more at peaks. Metro access still relies on a bus connection via stations such as São Judas or Conceição. For layovers, CGH is efficient for protected domestic connections but not built for overnight international transit: there is no meaningful airside hotel setup, most services follow daytime airport operating patterns, and long gaps are often better spent either in a lounge, storing luggage, or making a short city visit if traffic and weather allow.
