Land-gut-Hotel Barbarossa

Nestled in a quiet location on the outskirts of town, Hotel Freiwerk's core building is a spruce half-timbered villa dating back to 1894. Its restaurant, 20zwanzig, is housed in the modern extension built in 2020. The chic, trendy interior has large floor-to-ceiling windows that affords a splendid view of the surrounding greenery. The cooking is contemporary and seasonally inspired. Classics on the menu include Oldenburg duck and locally hunted game. Diners can opt for a surprise menu of flexible length or order à la carte. The Naturresort & Spa Schindelbruch features an ambitious restaurant concept called Silberstreif ("Silver Lining"), named after the 2022 butterfly of the year. Head chef Eric Jadischke and the young team rustle up contemporary cuisine inspired by the Harz region and its seasons. Some of the ingredients come from the garden that was planted with the restaurant's needs in mind. There is a five- to seven-course set menu, with corresponding wine or non-alcoholic pairings on request. Service is friendly and attentive.
