Knystaforsen
Creative, Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin
€€€€
A meal at Knystaforsen is truly a delight and staying the night further enhances the experience. A former sawmill, it sits in a wonderful spot beside the river, surrounded by woodland, and nature really is at every turn, be that through the panoramic windows or on your plate. Superb ingredients are from the local area and traditional wood-fired cooking adds a smoky edge – one course is even served outside by the campfire. You might sample such delights as moose tartare, trout with lingonberries or duck hearts with wild garlic, which are paired with both wines and interesting non-alcoholic crea

PM & Vänner Restaurant
Creative · ★ Michelin
€€€€
Set within a hotel of the same name, PM & Vänner ticks all the designer boxes: beautiful tables, stylish armchairs, chic lighting – and the fresh flowers and candelabras add a romantic touch. With no windows, you’re ensconced in your own little world, where the team passionately relay the story of the ‘Tabberas’ menu – a walk in the forest between mountains, meadows and lakes – where ambitious dishes showcase produce from their garden and bakery, as well as from local farmers, foragers and hunters. The extraordinary wine list offers a huge array of over 5,000 vintages and a remarkable collecti

The Ästad Vingård estate plays host to a luxury hotel and this stunningly designed, greenhouse-inspired restaurant set over two levels. Your visit starts with finely crafted snacks at the chef’s counter, then leads into a no-waste surprise tasting menu that uses fantastic seasonal produce from the surrounding Halland region. Skilfully prepared dishes are delicate, balanced and full of flavour, with combinations like scallop, glazed with fruity chilli caramel and served with preserved yellow tomato coulis, a good example of their cooking style. The cheese course is taken in a magnificent wine c

Pensionat Furuhem
Traditional Cuisine

Båstad might be known as Sweden’s centre of tennis, but Chef Magnus Nilsson is also aiming to put it on the map as somewhere to visit for its cuisine. In the centre of the seaside resort – also famed for its Cold Bath House – sits this beautiful white building dotted with green balconies, where three simply decorated, wood-furnished rooms provide a perfect match for the unfussy cuisine. The spettekaka dessert is not to be missed – a local speciality made from traditional Scanian pastry, slowly grilled all day over beech embers, then cut to order at your table and served with daily changing acc

Modern Cuisine

After many successful years as co-owner of Two-Michelin-Starred Gastrologik in Stockholm, Jacob Holmström returned to his birthplace with his wife Emelie and fell in love with this fantastic building on the Tylösand headland. Its design is chic and modern, and the atmosphere laid-back – and you’ll find it hard to decide whether to keep your eyes on the view, the open kitchen or the plate in front of you. The menu opens with snacks and ‘Canned Food’ (roe and caviar), before moving onto ‘Fish from the Cabinet’ and dishes showcasing other regional ingredients such as lamb with nettle purée and ar

Restaurant Sletten
Modern Cuisine

A relaxed former inn in a charming coastal village; most people head to the room with the sea view, although the others with their bold foodie pictures are equally as pleasant. Well-presented modern small plates make up the menu – 2-3 per person is about right. The wine list provides plenty of interest.
