Dining options at this restaurant include an attractive outdoor terrace with views of the surrounding area (in summer) and a friendly bistro-style dining room. We particularly enjoyed the linguine with carp roe, as well as the stuffed pigeon.

Situated right in the centre of Assisi, La Locanda del Cardinale occupies an old palazzo that is home to the perfectly preserved remains of a Roman villa dating back to 70 BC in a fascinating setting full of history. On the edge of Assisi’s historic centre, within the refined setting of the Nun hotel, Benedikto offers a selection of classic Umbrian products, but the gastronomic proposal is principally creative and of a high order. In fine weather, dining on the terrace with its view over the Rocca di Assisi takes on a particularly romantic quality.

This restaurant is named after Bartolo da Sassoferrato (as is the street on which it stands), a distinguished 14C jurist. From the street, you head down a few steps to the welcoming dining rooms with their historic ambience and brick-vaulted ceilings that keep the temperature pleasantly cool. The cuisine, which focuses exclusively on meat, is traditional and regional in flavour – an entire section of the menu is dedicated to black truffles in season. Friendly and attentive service.
