Since July 2021, Lara and Maximilian Schocke have been breathing new life into St Laurentiushof. Lara, with her warm personality and astute wine recommendations, is in charge of service. Chef Maximilian's ambitious dishes, made with the finest ingredients, go into a five-, six- or seven-course set menu, a vegetarian version of which can be prepared by prior arrangement. Having worked at Lilly in Neupotz, Stefan Echle (service) and Matthis Nowak (kitchen) have found their new vocation – in the vaulted cellar of the separately run Villa Königsgarten hotel (formerly Weingut Diehl). A few steps lead down from the courtyard to the restaurant. As you make your way to the dining area, you can take a peek into the glass-paned kitchen, while the modern, seasonal set menu, which offers a choice of options for each course, is being prepared. Remaining true to the Südliche Weinstraße, Sandra Bernhard and Jochen Sitter moved from Birkweiler to this 300 year-old former coaching house, which they run with great dedication and charm. The chef cooks traditional and modern, but above all, flavoursome fare. Dishes include classics such as pan-friend black pudding and Saumagen (stuffed pig’s stomach). The interior courtyard is gorgeous.

This attractive winegrower's house dating back to 1747 stands in the centre of the town. Stefan Püngeler and his wife Michela De Munno – well-known figures in the region – have taken over the reins here after a successful run at Restaurant Schneider in Dernbach. He is in charge of the kitchen, and she is responsible for the friendly service. On the menu: flavoursome Italian fare – the house-made pasta is a particular highlight. The tiramisu, presented on a dessert trolley and freshly portioned tableside, is truly delicious. Rump steak – practically a staple in the region – is also available. T
