Just a few minutes' drive from the capital, nestled in beautiful countryside, this bucolic restaurant sits atop a hill in a quiet and scenic location. Also featuring cosy rooms and a modern swimming pool, it offers cuisine that celebrates local flavours and iconic dishes: from fragrant Zagorska soup made with mushrooms and bacon to ricotta strudel and roast veal with potatoes. Among desserts, homemade ice creams are a constant presence. The wine list is entirely dedicated to the family's production, with labels also available by the glass.

This restaurant is a real surprise, located outside the village in a house that looks like all the others, but which opens onto an extraordinary delicatessen on the ground floor. The restaurant is on the first floor, which is equally welcoming, with an open kitchen. The menu focuses almost exclusively on meat, offering cuts from different breeds, from beef to the famous Mangalica and Krškopolje pork, as well as extraordinary hams; in short, a real treat!

Opened in 1972 and now run by the third generation of the family, the restaurant surprises guests with its modern, minimalist design and large glass walls that flood the rooms with natural light, from the moment they step inside. When booking, all you do is choose the length of the menu – three, five or seven courses for lunch, five or seven for dinner – while everything else is a surprise. In the kitchen, Gregor Vračko applies his deep knowledge of Styria, combined with remarkable creativity, offering a contemporary and unexpected interpretation of the region's outstanding produce.

“Bedem” is the Croatian word for “bastion” – a highly appropriate name for this restaurant which overlooks Varaždin’s historic castle and surrounding park. The cuisine here is classically French in style, with a contemporary touch and the use of local, seasonal ingredients such as vegetables from nearby Vidovce, pumpkin oil, turkey from Zagorie and local trout. The strukli (dumplings) stuffed with fresh cheese and served as an appetiser are delicious and the local wines offer excellent value for money. In winter, take a seat near the fireplace, while in summer the outdoor terrace is a must.
