This centrally located restaurant opposite the church of San Lorenzo, in an attractive venue that catches the eye with its towering arch and exposed brick walls, gastronomy is viewed as its own language and each of its dishes as a sentence ('frase' in Spanish) that tells a story which, where possible, is connected to personal memories and local history. The project is headed by María Egea and Marco Antonio Iniesta, with the former in charge of the front of house and the latter the kitchen. The elegance with which the concepts of roots and tradition are brought up to date comes as a pleasant su

A restaurant, with plenty of character, which extols the virtue of Mediterranean cuisine without closing its eyes to influences from elsewhere and which pulls out all the stops to ensure an authentic gourmet experience. Behind its floor-to-ceiling windows, the impression is of a young and contemporary eatery on two floors with a focus on market-inspired cuisine, featuring classic food pairings with an unfettered global approach. Chef Juan Guillamón allows himself full licence to introduce flavours acquired on his travels: for six seasons he worked as a chef for the Ferrari motor racing team, a

María José and Pedro are the tandem behind this unique restaurant, located next to the Madina Mursiya Interpretation Centre. In fact, it looks out onto it through an interior window. Here, in a refurbished space that surprises both for its design and its irregular puzzle-piece shaped wooden tables, the menu is steered towards simple yet well-executed Mediterranean cooking supported by top-quality ingredients. The dishes, designed for sharing, reflect their work in an à la carte that evolves with the season and is delivered in an envelope (they recommend choosing 5 to get a complete experience)

If you’re looking for something different you’ll find it here, as the focus of the couple in charge (María and Miguel Ángel) is on fusion cooking that combines the flavours of India, Morocco, France, Japan etc. The spacious restaurant, in the central Plaza de San Juan, as well as an unmistakeable appearance thanks to a striking yellow door that provides access to this relaxed bistro. The à la carte, with its strong focus on sharing, is surprising for its so-called “Bocados del Mundo”, which are complemented by a section entitled “Algo más Serio” (Something More Serious, featuring some of their

This highly unusual restaurant occupies an old paprika mill in the Espinardo district of Murcia, where the basement is home to an attractive private dining space and a themed museum dedicated to paprika (the fascinating and colourful collection of old containers is particularly impressive). The cooking here has its roots in tradition and the local region, albeit with a fun, imaginative and modern makeover, with no little technical skill. Head chef Rodi Fernández showcases his cuisine on an à la carte (the “panigiri” of red tuna and guacamole with a citrus and guacamole cream presented on an ho

Well known across the city, this centrally located restaurant boasts an informal bar perfect for tapas plus a stylish, classically furnished dining room with a central section that can be converted into a private dining space. The chef, who describes himself as “pure Murcian stock”, creates traditional, market-inspired cuisine that is showcased on an impressive à la carte (including a choice of stews and rice dishes for a minimum of two guests – the latter need to be pre-ordered), plus an “executive” menu at lunchtime.

A pleasantly surprising option in this small town and featuring two distinct ambiences: the popular original bar serving the daily menu and decorated with bulls’ heads, and the meticulously arranged contemporary dining room for the à la carte and tasting menus. The pair of chefs at the helm, Cundi and Tomás, propose a revised Murcian cuisine, with many dishes in tapa or snack format (we especially liked their crispy black cod ‘Roca’), and a section dedicated to Japanese cuisine that constantly plays with fusion. They’re working hard to bring Murcian chicken back into the culinary spotlight!

Located just a few steps from the cathedral, with a completely revamped concept that comes as a pleasant surprise in a setting occupying the former home of the equally successful Ajo y Agua restaurant. The contemporary and elegant interior features an initial dining room with a large table for groups, and then a second dining space from where the kitchen is partially visible to guests. Here, chef David López conjures up cuisine that is high on presentation and showcases a strong creative flair that he describes as “experimentation", with an extensive à la carte and no fewer than three tasting
