  • Diergardts Kühler Grund Established in 1904, this family-run restaurant is now in its fourth generation, with Philipp Diergardt now at the helm. He is passionate about cooking up traditional, seasonal cuisine that draws on locally sourced ingredients. The extensive menu is extremely appealing, making it difficult to choose. In addition to the fairly priced set menu ("Heimatmenü"), there are also classics such as bouillabaisse or Wiener schnitzel, as well as weekly specials that change with the seasons and dishes for two or more people. Wine connoisseurs will find plenty to enjoy here, and all reasonably priced. The f8.0km
  • Gute Stube im Parkhotel The modern and elegant restaurant complete with conservatory and roof terrace is housed in a pretty palace building near Herne's Stadtgarten. The contemporary cuisine takes the form of seasonal set menus and à la carte dishes, including vegetarian options. The chefs try to use regional produce as much as possible. Friendly service. For a simpler alternative in the evening, head to Das Stübchen for classic fare or to the beer garden. Parkhotel offers cosy guestrooms. Tip: Enjoy a short walk through the beautiful Stadtgarten. A longer route takes you to the debris field of the (closed) Mont Ceni9.3km
  • Fachwerk Semi Hassine and Patrizia Weidemann-Hassine run this restaurant in the old town, where exposed timber beams lend the space a charming rustic feel. The lovely terrace commands a view of the old half-timbered façades all around. On the menu: Westphalian cuisine with Mediterranean and subtle Eastern influences. Tip: the attractive changing seasonal set menu. Hot food is served from 4pm; on Saturdays from noon, all day.9.5km
