A trip to this enthusiastically run country pub feels a little like stepping back in time, in the best possible way. Serving the kind of menu where you could happily eat every dish, the kitchen favours a no-nonsense approach where big, hearty flavours and prime produce lead the way. Great use is made of cooking over fire, in dishes like wood-roasted quail served with a glossy sauce made from its roasting juices. It’s all simply joyous cooking, made even better by the welcoming team and idyllic location in the shadow of this tiny hamlet’s picturesque church.

The bucolic village setting, lush gardens and well-kept exterior bode well as you approach this lovely village inn. Once you enter, its charming spell remains unbroken, with a friendly team and bags of character. The décor blends the modern and the traditional with aplomb, whilst maintaining a proper pub feel – you'll likely find a group of regulars and their dogs by the fire. The menu changes depending on the produce available, but you can expect gently modernised pub dishes, with steaks a feature of the menu, from sirloin to chateaubriand for two.

This modern dining pub is far from unruly, with a formality to the service and a welcome warmth from the genial team.
