  • Sculthorpe MillBib Dating all the way back to 1757, this striking former mill looks like it's been taken off the front of a Norfolk picture postcard. Lovingly restored by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton, it's now a chic dining pub with contemporary bedrooms and a riverside terrace. The cooking doesn't reinvent the wheel, but instead offers well-judged, flavoursome dishes like green gazpacho with Cromer crab. Ensure you save some room for dessert, especially if the terrific Norfolk pear and hazelnut tart is on the menu.6.9km
  • The Neptune★ Michelin Kevin Mangeolles is a classically trained chef who works alone in his kitchen and really understands traditional flavour combinations. He’s not trying to reinvent the wheel with his cooking, nor is he trying to challenge your tastebuds or make everything Instagram-pretty; he's simply concerned with what’s in season and what’s available in the local area, which results in dishes that are bursting with flavour and extremely well balanced. Kevin's wife Jacki runs this 18C coaching inn with a calm confidence. There are bedrooms available for those wishing to make a night of it.19.9km
  • Socius One meaning of the Latin word 'socius' is ‘sharing’, making it an apt name for this friendly restaurant that's best enjoyed with a group of friends and family so you can give the menu a thorough going over. The barn-like space is bright and airy, with seating on either a steel-framed mezzanine level or the smart ground floor where you can watch the chefs at work. The flexible, constantly evolving menu draws on a range of influences for the unfussy, flavoursome small plates – among which are a good selection of vegetarian choices.14.2km
  • The Old Bank A welcoming couple run this intimate, laid-back restaurant: Aga works out front, assisted by a friendly serving team, while Lewis heads up the kitchen. As the name suggests, it's a former bank and the old banking counter now acts as the bar. The well-balanced tasting menu comes in two forms – ‘Shorter’ and ‘Longer’ – and has a real generosity to it, using produce from their allotment and the surrounding area in ambitious dishes with numerous flavours and textures. The passionately described wine pairings are the way to go.15.4km
  • The Ship The Peyton sisters behind nearby Sculthorpe Mill have taken on this historic pub dating back to 1790 and given it a new lease of life. The eye-catching interior design fuses eggshell blue with bright orange upholstery, lending the room a Mediterranean vibe that chimes with cooking that borrows from both Spain and Italy. Start with homemade focaccia or a topped flatbread, then move on to generous, full-flavoured dishes like pan-seared hake with butterbeans, chorizo, saffron and lemon. If you feel like staying longer, there are comfortable bedrooms upstairs.16.7km
  • The Conservatory Titchwell Manor, not the country house you may expect but a converted Victorian farmhouse and its outbuildings, is the picturesque setting for this bright and airy restaurant. Tables overlook the walled garden, from which the chefs use plenty of seasonal ingredients alongside meat and game from local estates, plus Norfolk seafood such as Wells crab. These ingredients are well utilised in unfussy modern classics with a less-is-more approach, all the better for extracting the natural flavours of the produce.16.9km
