A temple for the production of culatello ham, which features in the dishes served and is also matured on the premises for 16, 26 and 38 months (the maturing rooms are well worth a visit), Al Vedel also serves other regional specialities, as well as more imaginative fare. This delightful, long-established family trattoria, in business for over a century, has the motto “Chi mangium nustran” (“here we eat local”) in a demonstration of its commitment to cuisine from the Lower Po valley, although other Italian dishes also feature on the menu. At midday, choose from a selection of simple, delicious and reasonably priced homemade dishes, while in the evening just one single tasting menu, concluding with the dessert trolley, is served.

In business since 1850 and now run by the sixth generation, this simple and authentic family trattoria is a mecca for fans of Bassa Padana cuisine. The menu boasts an extraordinary combination of specialities from Cremona and Mantova, including local cured meats, pumpkin tortelli with sweet tomato sauté, “porc-tonné” (meat with tuna) from an original recipe by Pellegrino Artusi, and sbrisolona cake with warm zabaglione.
