- CarmenBib This restaurant is located in the same building as the Lonja Agropecuaria, the largest farming auction in Spain, where the price of beef in other auctions depends largely on prices established here. Given the above, it’s no surprise to see this restaurant, which started life in nearby Tamarite de Litera before moving here, taking full advantage of the choice cuts of meats from this area. Chef Iván Vilanova serves up an à la carte of unpretentious dishes with a focus on seasonal ingredients alongside two menus (an “executive” menu for lunch midweek, as well as a tasting option), always striving10.2km
- La Oveja NegraBib With a name that translates as “the black sheep”, this gastronomic restaurant is gradually winning over a larger flock of clientele! The young couple at the helm, Rafa Bautista in the kitchen and María Vegue overseeing the dining room, put their life and soul into every sitting, serving modern dishes with a traditional flavour that showcase the ingredients and produce of the Somontano de Barbastro area but with a constant nod to the south of the country as a reminder of the chef’s roots. Their menu focuses exclusively on a carefully curated tasting menu: Rebaño Gastronómico (five courses, slig14.7km
- Malena★ Michelin This family-run restaurant occupies an old farm on the outskirts of Gimenells, where it works alongside the Institute for Food Research and Technology to promote the region’s locally grown produce. Features here include an attractive glass-fronted wine cellar, open kitchen, contemporary dining room, plus a pleasant private space with an open fire. The chef at the helm, Xixo Castaño, create traditionally based modern cuisine that is showcased on two menus (De la Pizarra and Q), plus an à la carte that features dishes from both. We were especially surprised by their Brutesca-style snails and char33.4km
- AimiaBib A restaurant that is well worth considering as it is never easy to find modern cuisine at affordable prices. The restaurant, which takes its name (’a beloved woman’) from an old Catalan language once sung by troubadours, boasts a contemporary interior with a kitchen visible from the dining room and an adjoining bar so that you can watch as the dishes are prepared in front of you. Chef Jordi Pallàs champions a modern fusion cuisine with plenty of Asian influences, both in the à la carte service and through his set menus (Aimia and Alma de Aimia). Our recommendation? Try their Llauna-style rice 47.6km
- SisèBib Sisè is situated in the district of Cappont, a residential area to the south of the city, where it is run in a very informal manner by Àngel Esteve, a young Lleida-born chef who has returned to his roots to open his own business (the name is his own small homage to his grandparents) having worked away in a number of leading restaurants. His cuisine, the main inspiration for which derives from the open grill, is showcased on an updated take on traditional cuisine, to which he adds interesting smoke-influenced touches (a superb example is the grilled cod with celery). The kitchen opens onto the 48.6km
- Saroa Enthusiasm, passion, youth... the couple at the helm (with Salvador in charge of savoury and Aroa in charge of sweet) champion an innovative take on traditional cuisine in the centre of Lleida, which is reflected in both the à la carte and set menus: Degustación Aroa (lunchtime only, Monday to Friday, except bank holidays) and Degustación Salvador. Recommendations? Always keep an eye out for their off-menu dishes and don't miss the Lleida snails stewed with slow-cooked tomato and onion, as they have an exquisite flavour.47.3km
- Ferreruela This rustic-contemporary restaurant occupying an old warehouse is one of those places that has fully earned its reputation as a safe bet. It offers a traditional-Catalan menu that changes daily in line with market availability and is able to surprise guests with some of its dishes, such as the foie gras sandwich with crystallised orange and Château Laribotte Sauternes. All the main dishes here are cooked on the open grill.47.5km
- Carballeira Southwest of Lleida, en route to Zaragoza, there is a family-run restaurant that never fails. The owner, Galician by birth, is faithful to his roots and goes all in on fresh fish and seafood of tremendous quality, brought daily from the ports of Galicia and Tarragona. The extensive menu, complemented by some dishes of the day, is supported by three set menus: Menú de l'Angel (only on weekdays), Menú del chef and Menú degustación, with an indoor terrace that is ideal on summer days!47.7km
