The owners themselves attend to both dining room and kitchen, ensuring that homestyle yet flavorful Abruzzese dishes reach the table, sometimes announced verbally to complement a menu featuring cheeses, cured meats, and grilled fare (yes, there are arrosticini!). The specialties not to be missed are certainly the traditional handmade pastas, each bearing its own distinctive name, and the indulgent desserts (the seasonal fruit crostatas are excellent). Known throughout Italy for its pillow lace, the small town of Pescocostanzo in the Parco della Maiella is one of the most beautiful in Italy. It is also home to the Relais Ducale hotel and its La Corniola restaurant, which is renowned for its excellent modern Abruzzo cuisine, including delicious, seasonal dishes made from different vegetables, potatoes and onions grown in the hotel’s own kitchen gardens. Despite its lack of awards, this restaurant stands out for the quality of its cuisine. Situated in the town centre, it has a small intimate dining room with just a few tables (it’s best to book ahead) that acts as a backdrop for good-quality dishes made from local, seasonal ingredients, as well as a few modern and imaginative fish options. Highly recommended!
