When you dine at Leon D’Oro, you feel as though you’re visiting old friends thanks to the attractive, rustic-style atmosphere, with two elegant dining rooms and a welcoming garden for summer evenings. The cuisine is regional yet also includes fish and seafood, with traditional recipes featuring alongside more modern and creative fare on the menu. There are two tasting options, both dedicated to the sea and water, while the extensive à la carte includes superb delicacies such as marubini pasta with a Marsala reduction and parmesan cheese, and sturgeon au gratin with a Mediterranean battuto, mil

Dal Pescatore
Italian Contemporary, Classic Cuisine · ★★★ Michelin

Three-starred since 1996 – a record in Italy – and approaching its centenary, this restaurant is an unmissable landmark for understanding the history of Italian gastronomy. In Runate, a small hamlet in the countryside between Cremona and Mantua, a family osteria of long standing has been transformed into a place of rare elegance and genuine hospitality. In the dining room, Antonio Santini, flanked by his family, welcomes guests with warmth, while in the kitchen a tradition of rigour, sensitivity and continuity is lovingly perpetuated. The interiors, balanced between memory and contemporaneity,

Al Gambero

A long-established restaurant in the Lower Brescia region, where the elegant, meticulous service is skilfully overseen by the owner, Al Gambero is the perfect choice for anyone in search of cuisine that is full of flavour and prepared using skilful, modern techniques, and in which taste is everything. The restaurant opened in 1880 in the oldest house in the village and is now run by descendants of the same family. After so many years in business, the menu has accumulated a number of unmissable signature dishes, from its famous risottos to roast kid.

Having successfully been in business for over 40 years, this restaurant continues to shine for its top-quality traditional cuisine, priding itself, as it has always done, on its love for local specialities. Goose dishes take centre stage on the menu (the area is famous for its goose), alongside an excellent selection of traditional boiled meats all of which are sourced locally. There’s also a good choice of wine, which is skilfully displayed and served from a trolley in the dining room from which wines are served by the glass.

Antica Corte Pallavicina

A fairy-tale setting for a property of almost castle-like aspect, originally built as a customs post on the River Po in the fourteenth century. Today Massimo Spigaroli, whose family were once sharecroppers on the surrounding land, is its owner and has transformed the complex into a complete destination: guest rooms, the Hosteria del Maiale bistrot and spaces for private events. Completing the experience are a visit to the Museo del Culatello and a ‘gastrofluvial’ cuisine deeply bound to the traditions of the local area. Among the historic dishes, the frogs’ legs stand out, golden with sweet ga

A pleasant (and excellent) provincial restaurant with a modern feel and a traditional brick-vaulted ceiling, where owner-chef Samuele Miglioli pays tribute to local traditions in his cuisine (don’t miss the marubini pasta in three broths and the famous pumpkin tortelli). The dishes here focus on seasonal ingredients which are carefully transformed into generous dishes full of flavour, as demonstrated by the rice timbale served on a delicious beef ragù and topped with beef carpaccio. There’s also an excellent selection of wines, with a particular focus on sparkling wines.

Overlooking a picturesque Renaissance square, the café here dates back to the early 19C and the trattoria shortly after. Today, the decor is a nostalgic mix of styles from the mid-19C to the mid-20C, including Art Nouveau. The restaurant not only appeals to the eyes but also to the tastebuds thanks to its careful selection of top-quality local ingredients which are served in family-style dishes typical of the Po Valley, with a broad selection of recipes from the different provinces in this extensive region (stuffed marubini pasta in broth, culatello ham, boiled meats served with home-made most

This delightful, long-established family trattoria, in business for over a century, has the motto “Chi mangium nustran” (“here we eat local”) in a demonstration of its commitment to cuisine from the Lower Po valley, although other Italian dishes also feature on the menu. At midday, choose from a selection of simple, delicious and reasonably priced homemade dishes, while in the evening just one single tasting menu, concluding with the dessert trolley, is served.
