This restaurant is located close to the 13C Cistercian monastery and its Baroque church. The chic decor has a modern, casual feel, and the kitchen is open to view. The dishes served here are pleasantly down to earth and packed with flavour. Ingredients are chosen according to the season and predominantly sourced from within a 50km radius. "AS" refers to both the lakeside location (am See: Scharmützelsee) and the initials of chef-patron Andreas Staack. In this inviting, friendly place – a cross between a wine bar and a bistro – the affable owner devises a five-course menu out of his modern dishes, such as "gnocchi, morel cream, sot-l'y-laisse" and "sea bass, fennel, mussel cream". The quality of the ingredients is top notch, and the bill is good value for money. On Sundays, the set menu is available at lunchtime. The restaurant is nestled in a side street in a quiet, leafy residential area a stone's throw from the spa gardens. I
