A great place to experience nature untamed – in a sensational location at an altitude of 1 550m! Under the direction of Benedikt Voss, the cuisine is well devised and very technically sophisticated; refined yet brimming with ideas, it steers well clear of gimmicks and ostentation. Only high-quality, mostly organic produce from Switzerland is used, as well as over 400 different herbs from their own garden. Opt for the alcohol-free drink pairings, which include house-made lemonades. Why not book one of the simple but well-kept guestrooms at the Kräuter Hotel Edelweiss, in which the restaurant is

Patrick Mahler and his team offer a unique culinary experience in the form of an exciting six- or eight-course set menu. Replete with intricate details, it blends classic, Japanese and Scandinavian elements. Amuse-bouches, such as shiitake dashi with a lovely hint of ginger, provide the perfect prelude. Hard to be beaten in terms of intensity and complexity of flavour is the combination of Miéral pigeon and truffle, accompanied by the wonderful depth of pigeon jus, as well as Albufera sauce and white cabbage foam. The signature dish of duck liver ice cream with beetroot and beef tartare also d

Housed in the exclusive Park Hotel Vitznau, which dates back to 1903, this summer-only restaurant whisks you away on a culinary voyage. Japanese fusion cuisine is the name of the game here. There is an omakase menu (for two or more diners) and an à la carte selection including sushi, sashimi, Wagyu dishes and ramen. The vibe is casually elegant. The location overlooking the lake is a draw in itself, and it goes without saying that tables on the terrace are highly coveted.

The charmingly laid-back second restaurant of the Hotel Balm maintains the same culinary ambition as the first. Expect expertly crafted, flavoursome regional dishes rooted in classic French cuisine, such as a delicate creamy fennel soup or succulent braised veal breast with vegetables and celeriac-potato mash. Diners can choose between à la carte options and a set menu. Friendly and adept service. Lovely terrace.

Records of this building go back to 1706, at which time it was a tavern. Today, the restaurant of the Rössli hotel, which is not far from Vierwaldstätter See, has a nicely pared-back interior and a pleasant terrace. It serves ambitious modern cuisine with seasonal and international influences – you can order à la carte or opt for the four- to seven-course set menu, which is available in two versions: meat/fish or vegetarian. Hotel patrons get to enjoy well-kept guestrooms and the spa facilities.

HYG Restaurant & Bar

The name "HYG" is a nod to the Danish word and concept of hygge, which describes the combination of cosiness, conviviality and culinary enjoyment. The motivated young team and trendy, modern decor foster just that relaxed, feel-good atmosphere. Choose between a sharing menu for two or more people and an à la carte menu with dishes such as "yellowfin tuna, tomato, daikon", "linguine, wild-caught Argentine red shrimp, Amalfi lemon" or "crispy Alpstein chicken, roasted vegetable cream, smoked almonds". The wine list, which comprises around 500 items, also includes well-known names and great wines

Farm to table, Classic Cuisine

In this gorgeous inn, a winning father-and-daughter team conjures up modern takes on classic dishes. They propose a surprise menu – slightly cheaper at lunchtime than in the evening. Incidentally, they smoke the salmon themselves. If you would like a vegetarian menu, please indicate this when making your reservation. Well-stocked wine list. Tip: Across the road, there is a terrace shaded by plane trees, right by Lake Zug and with a view of the Rigi – in fine weather the sunsets are magical!
