A short walk from Claude Monet's house, this half-timbered Anglo-Norman residence dating back to 1912 extends an invitation to relax and enjoy the good things in life. Normandy-born chef David Gallienne, who earned his stripes at the Manoir du Lys, crafts precise, refined cuisine, with inventive and colourful dishes that feature unorthodox marriages of flavours and carefully crafted textures. He uses a network of local suppliers, but allows himself forays further afield, paying particular attention to the selection of ingredients, eg farmhouse butter and mussels from Mont-Saint-Michel. This charming hotel perched on a chalk cliff was originally commissioned in 1908 by King Leopold II of Belgium so that he could entertain his lover, Blanche de Vaughan, but it is now a magnet for foodies. Sourcing local produce is central to the estate’s outlook: scallops from the Bay of the Seine, farm-reared lamb from nearby breeders and fresh fruit and vegetables from local growers. The result is recipes oozing in fresh, crisp, wholesome flavours. When the weather is fine, alfresco dining on the terrace gazing down over the meanders of the Seine is heavenly. Near Giverny, the main square of Gasny is home to this half-timbered family-run inn that is the epitome of rural Normandy. The chef favours local produce in his inspired lineup, flanked by big-boned sauces and steeped in forthright flavours. His signature dish, risotto of langoustines, is to die for! The interior boasts a bar, a cellar, two contemporary dining rooms and a patio come fine weather. Simpler, bargain-priced lunchtime weekday deal.

La Musardière

Modern Cuisine

Located in the heart of the village, close to Claude Monet's house and the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, La Musardière serves a bistronomy lunch menu at Le M and more ambitious dining options in the evening at Révélations. The convivial, contemporary bistro setting is complemented by a pleasant terrace that receives plenty of sun in summer. A number of guestrooms are available, should you wish to extend your stay.

From its location on the banks of the Seine, this restaurant overlooks the limestone cliffs of Giverny and the passing barges. A welcoming atmosphere awaits you in a pleasant interior with polished concrete floors, whitewashed walls and vintage bistro furniture. Gabin Rodes, a young chef from Vernon who trained at Éric Guérin's La Mare aux Oiseaux, revisits bistro classics without compromising their character, a case in point being leeks in vinaigrette tweaked with coriander and black garlic. A strong commitment to using local produce means ingredients are sourced from within a 100km radius. T
