The Vliet canal provides the stunning backdrop to this stylishly decorated yet cosy farmhouse. The waterfront terrace (with mooring facilities) and the sight of the passing boats captures everyone's heart. This is a magical setting in which to discover a modern approach to French cuisine with occasional subtle exotic nuances. Savour classic lobster soup with crayfish and Cognac crème, or tuck into a medium-rare beef fillet with a bold red wine jus. Deciding whether to go à la carte or opt for the set menu (vegetarian version available) will be difficult!

Tables on the sunny terrace and in the conservatory are much in demand at this long-established restaurant. The view of the shimmering Vliet canal is breathtaking! Marcel van Teijlingen's culinary creations are a testament to his attention to detail and refined palate, both in their presentation and their flavour profiles. He likes to add playful touches to his dishes, which are classic in their foundations. Think celeriac mousse finished with onion and a ponzu oil, adding vibrancy to a rich millefeuille of celeriac and oxtail. The old and the new join forces at De Knip.

The view of the Oude Rijn and the authentic sawmill charms you as soon as you walk into this characterful restaurant (that terrace!), but chef Van der Pluijm's cuisine also deserves attention. His style is modern and restrained, with subtle cosmopolitan accents. For example, he cooks bavette to a beautiful pink and serves it with a creamy parsnip purée, mushroom duxelles, pommes dauphine and a slice of fried goose liver. The plates are beautifully presented and combine classic touches with refined creativity, without excess.
