In this lovely 15C red-brick house, chef Ben Piette and his wife Lornette found the ideal setting for their dream project. They live upstairs and have converted the downstairs to serve their guests, but view the whole thing as part of their home. Nathan Marshall Clarke House

From the façade, you wouldn’t guess this was once a courthouse, but inside you’ll find a door leading to what was the judge’s bench. It’s a tiny place with exposed beams and a rustic style and is keenly run by a young couple. Cooking sees a little intricacy added to well-presented, country house style dishes.

This restaurant is temporarily closed following a fire.‘The Hodd’ is a characterful pub at the heart of the village, and offers a friendly welcome and charm aplenty with its rustic brickwork and exposed timbers. Understated menu descriptions belie the skill involved in the experienced chef’s well-crafted dishes. Be sure to save room for pudding and stay overnight in one of the five bedrooms so you can explore more of the local area.
